Drug lab found after Sittard house fire
The police discovered a "production site for narcotics" in a home on Ophoven in Sittard after there was a fire in the building on Monday evening. The police believe that the home was used to produce and dry cocaine, but further investigation is currently impossible due to the instability of the building. No arrests have been made, the police said in a statement.
Emergency services responded to the scene at around 10:00 p.m. on Monday after a report of smoke coming from the home. The police and firefighters were at the scene when an explosion occurred, destroying part of the building's facade and preventing emergency services from entering.
Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the drug lab. Due to the unstable situation of the building, the police have not yet been able to enter it. The home's gas and electricity was shut down. The building will carefully be demolished so that the police can get a clearer view of what is going on.
