Body found under suspicious circumstances in Amstelveen home

A 27-year-old man was found dead in a home on Doctor Plesmansingel in Amstelveen on Sunday afternoon. The police describe the circumstances in which the body was found as "suspicious" and take into account that the man was killed in a crime.

At around 2:45 p.m. the police received a report of shouting in the home. Responding officers found a family and the lifeless body of one of the residents inside the apartment. "At this moment it is not yet clear what the exact circumstances and the cause of death are", the police said in a statement.

The home was closed down as a crime scene. Employees of the Netherlands Forensic Institute did a trace evidence investigation in the home, and police officers spoke to neighbors and other local residents.

Investigators call on witnesses to come forward. The police are specifically looking for a man seen at the apartment building with a bloody sports jacket at around 11:30 a.m. He was later seen walking towards Van der Hooplaan or Stadshart Amstelveen.

Witnesses describe the man as around 25 years old with tanned skin, a stout posture and short shaven hair. He is around 1.95 meter tall and was dressed in a dark gray hoody.
