Girl, 6, dies after accident with lawnmower

A 6-year-old girl from Kampen passed away on Sunday after she was seriously injured in an accident with a lawnmower last week, mayor Bort Koelewijn confirmed. According to the mayor, the girl's family were called to the hospital on Sunday. He received news of her passing on Monday, RTL Nieuws reports.

"Our hearts are full of sadness", Koelewijn said. "It is a huge blow for the family and those directly involved, but also for all the doctors who fought to the end."

The accident happened on a piece of grass on Bouwkamp, near a primary school .What exactly went wrong is not yet clear. The driver of the lawnmower, a 29-year-old man employed by the municipality, was arrested for questioning. The lawnmower was confiscated.

Several children were in the area when the accident happened. Victim support was arranged for them.
