Gelderland businesses evacuated over nitric acid leak
The Friesland Campina plant in Lochem in Gelderland had to be evacuated on Friday morning because nitric acid leaked from a container. A neighboring company was also evacuated as a precaution, ANP reports.
The fire brigade used a water screen to control the leaked acid and managed to close the leak. A cloud of nitric acid spread through the area, but has now settled, according to the local safety office. The danger has passed.
A specialist company was called in to clean up the spill.
