
Army base evacuated over suspicious package; no explosives found
The discovery of a suspicious package triggered an evacuation at the army base in the Gelderland town of Oldebroek on Tuesday afternoon. No explosives were found in the package. The Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that forms part of the Dutch military, is investigating, De Stentor reports.
The package was discovered in a building on the base, which also includes the artillery shooting camp in 't Harde, around 4:15 p.m. The building was evacuated and the emergency services were called in. The fire brigade, the Marechaussee and explosive experts were deployed.
During the investigation, indications were found that there may be unauthorized persons in the building, a spokesperson for the Marechaussee said to the newspaper. A SWAT team was deployed. The building was searched, but no one was found.
The investigation into the suspicious package, and how it got to be on the army base, is still ongoing.
