Cops pelted with stones, beer bottles, eggs in Deventer

Police officers responding to a fight at a party in the Rode Dorp neighborhood in Deventer on Saturday night were pelted with stones, beer bottles and eggs, spat at and insulted. Two men were arrested, a third is still at large, the police said in a statement.

The police first responded to Enkdwarsstraat. There a 38-year-old man from Zwolle was arrested for repeatedly causing disruptions at local residents' homes.

Shortly after that arrest, the police received reports of a large brawl on Tabakstraat. Multiple police officers were deployed. At the scene they were pelted with beer bottles, stones and eggs. To restore calm, the officers ordered everyone to go home. Most people listened, but a 50-year-old man from Deventer and a 42-year-old man from Zwolle refused to cooperate. They shouted at and insulted the officers, and were arrested for their efforts.

A third man spat in an officer's face and ran off. He hasn't been caught yet, but the police know who he is, the police said.
