Cannabis farm found in Arnhem fire

Firefighters found a cannabis plantation while fighting a fire in a building on Westervoortsedijk in Arnhem on Monday morning, the fire department said. The building in question is rented by poultry company Blom, De Gelderlander reports.

A passerby saw a thick plume of smoke coming from the building around 8:30 a.m. and called the fire brigade. Clouds of smoke were visible in a wide area. Local residents were called on to keep their windows and doors closed. The fire brigade had the fire under control around 10:00 a.m., but are still working on extinguishing it.

The building in question is empty, Mick Blom, the son of the owner of the poultry company, told De Gelderlander. "This is not possible at all, we have not used the building for months and no one can enter it." He did add that they sublet the building until March. The company moved to Milsbeek in May 2016. This property is kept for emergency storage, Blom said.
