French giants in Leeuwarden this weekend

Leeuwarden, the Culture Capital of Europe this year, will host three very special guests this weekend - giant marionettes from French street theater company Royal de Luxe. They'll be in Leeuwarden on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, RTL Nieuws reports.

The star of the show is the 11 meter high Diver. The marionette weighs 3 tons and needs 40 people to move him at a speed of 2 kilometers per hour. He will be accompanied by the Giant Little Girl of 5.5 meters and the 3 meter high Xolo dog.

The three marionettes will tell the story of The big skate in the ice. The girl goes in search of her father, a diver, with the help of her dog.

This is the Royal de Luxe marionettes' first visit to the Netherlands. The Cultural Capital organization expects 450 thousand people to come see the large guests this weekend.
