Brit arrested in Colombia for murder of Dutch boy, 12
The Colombian authorities arrested a 36-year-old British man who still has to serve a prison sentence of over 18 years for the murder of a 12-year-old Dutch boy at a caravan camp in Breda, NOS reports.
Danny Gubbels was sitting at the kitchen table with his mother in 2010 when gunmen opened fire on their caravan. 27 shots were fired. The boy was killed, his mother was injured.
Two people were convicted for the child's murder. The British man was initially acquitted, but convicted on appeal. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was not present at the sentencing. It is believed that a drug conflict with Danny's father was behind the attack, according to the broadcaster.
According to the Public Prosecutor, collaboration with the Colombian authorities resulted in the man's arrest on Friday. The British man was visiting his parents in Colombia when he was arrested. The Netherlands will ask Colombia to extradite the man.
