Gelderland neighborhood evacuated over gas leak

The residents of 23 homes on Potsmaat in Doesburg, Gelderland were evacuated around 8:00 p.m. on Monday night due to a gas leak in one of the houses. A resident struck a gas pipe with a shovel while working in his crawl space, De Gelderlander reports.

The main gas line was turned off, and the fire department and Liander worked on closing the leak at the site. Part of the residential neighborhood was also closed down with police tape to keep people from wandering in.

The evacuated residents were given shelter in a sports hall on Breedestraat, where firefighters and Liander employees kept them informed about their progress. They were finally allowed to return to their homes around midnight.
