Shooting in Rotterdam liquor store leaves one dead

A 46-year-old man was shot and killed in a liquor store on Riederlaan in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Hillesluis on Saturday evening. The shooting happened after a fight on the street, NOS reports.

The incident happened just before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. A group of people, including the victim and the shooter, got into a fight in front of the liquor store. At one point the quarrel moved inside and the victim was shot.

Two police officers who happened to be in the neighborhood heard the shots and rushed to the scene. They arrested a 26-year-old man as he left the store. The officers tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail.

More arrests may follow. The liquor store is equipped with multiple surveillance cameras which can help the police in their investigation, according to AD.

At around the same time, a woman was shot in her arm in the parking lot of a sports club on Capelseweg in Capelle aan den IJssel. Here too a quarrel preceded the shooting. The perpetrator fled. The police are investigating.
