Stepfather gets 10 years for killing girl, 12

On Tuesday the court sentenced Freddy D. to 10 years in prison and institutionalized psychiatric treatment for killing his 12-year-old stepdaughter Djamila Marissen from Hoogeveen last year, NU.nl reports.

According to the court, D. killed Djamila to prevent being caught sexually abusing her. He was convicted of manslaughter and child sex abuse.

D. made Djamila watch him masturbate and then strangled her to death in his car near Staphorst on October 14th last year. He then drove around for hours with the girl's body in his car, before calling his mother and telling her he had "done something very bad". His mother told him to go to the police, which he did. The cops found Djamila's body in the trunk of his car.

The sentence is equal to what the Public Prosecutor demanded. D.'s lawyer called for acquittal, saying that his client never intended to kill Djamila. The 47-year-old man from Hoogeveen has reduced accountability due to several disorders.
