Woman killed in Breda stabbing; suspect arrested
A 42-year-old woman from Hoogvliet was stabbed to death on Klaverweide in Breda on Wednesday evening. A 42-year-old man from Breda was arrested immediately after the incident, AD reports.
The stabbing happened around 6:30 p.m. The suspect calmly stayed in the spot until the police arrived. A local resident went to see what was going on when he heard screaming. According to the resident, the man stabbed the woman around 20 times.
"When I looked outside, I saw a woman getting out of a car. Immediately afterwards a man came from the same car. He immediately started stabbing her with a knife", the resident said to AD. "In her back, her arms, everywhere. Even when she was lying on the ground, he kept stabbing. At one point he put the woman's coat over her."
After the stabbing, the man went to stand against his car, witnesses said to the newspaper. "It seemed like he was waiting. When the police arrived, he lay down on the ground himself and was handcuffed."
Emergency services arrived at the scene with multiple ambulances, including a helicopter ambulance. The victim was given first aid and rushed to hospital, where she died a few hours later.
The police closed down Klaverweide and the streets around it for investigation. The suspect was taken to a detention center for questioning and further investigation.
