Girl, 5, seriously hurt in dog attack
A 5-year-old girl and her grandmother were both injured when a dog attacked them in Schijndel on Tuesday. The little girl was rushed to hospital by air ambulance with bite wounds to her face. Her grandmother was taken to hospital by ambulance with wounds on her arms, the Telegraaf reports.
The grandmother was walking the dog for an acquaintance on Boomstraat when it attacked them, according to Brabants Dagblad. Both victims were taken to the Radboud hospital in Nijmegen.
"For over a year the woman walked the dog for someone on our street", Piet van Geffen, a resident of Boomstraat, said to Brabants Dagblad. "The child probably wanted to pet the dog and the dog became aggressive. The girl was bitten in her face and bled a lot. The woman jumped onto the child to protect her and was also bitten by the dog."
Another local resident, Broer Claassen, saw the incident happen and called the emergency services. He grabbed the dog by its collar and pulled it off the child and woman. He took the dog back to its owners' house.
What breed of dog was involved, is not clear.
