Man killed in Brabant town; gunman still at large
A man was killed in a shooting on Aagje Dekenstraat in the Noord-Brabant town of Schijndel on Wednesday evening. The police are investigating exactly what happened. So far no arrests were made.
The police responded to the scene around 7:15 p.m. The critically injured man was found lying near a car. First responders tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He died on the spot.
Local residents told Omroep Brabant that multiple shots were fired. The shooting happened in the residential neighborhood while many kids were still playing outside.
The police immediately launched an investigation at the scene, which lasted well into the night. Forensic investigators combed the area in a wide radius around the crime scene for trace evidence.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The formal identification is still in progress and his family still has to be informed, the police said in a statement around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. "At the moment we can say nothing further about it."
Police officers also spoke to local residents, to find out whether they saw or heard anything, and whether camera footage of the incident can be found. Investigators call on witnesses to come forward.
