SWAT team's search for armed man alarms Valkenwaard residents

A heavily armed SWAT team responded to Valkenswaard to search for a possibly armed man on Monday afternoon. The action drew a lot of attention from alarmed local residents. The suspect was arrested in Waalre a few hours later, Eindhovens Dagblad reports.

The SWAT team responded to Valkenswaard around 5:00 p.m. after the police received a report of an armed man in a house on Bremlaan. The SWAT team surrounded the house, and later forced their way in, but no one was found inside.

A few hours later, the 22-year-old suspect was arrested in a car in Waalre.

Local residents were quite alarmed by the heavily armed SWAT team's sudden appearance. They were not allowed to enter their homes, and were kept at a distance by police tape, for some time on Monday afternoon.

This neighborhood saw a number of incidents this past period, including multiple fights and an explosive left under a car, the newspaper writes. On Saturday a police helicopter circled above the area.
