Wilders wants Dutch with dual-nationality to lose voting right

Dutch citizens with dual nationality must lose their voting rights and must not be eligible for political positions in the Netherlands, according to PVV leader Geert Wilders. This is in the interests of "the Netherlands' survival", he said in an interview with the Telegraaf.

"The Netherlands is our country. It must be run by Dutch, who are elected by Dutch. By Dutch wo do not even have the appearance of double loyalty", he said to the newspaper.

Wilders is working on a bill to change the constitution to the example of Australia. In Australia people with dual nationality are not allowed to perform a function in parliament. According to the PVV leader, his proposal applies to all nationalities. He also doesn't want to make an exemption for Queen Maxima. "I would have no problem if she lost her Argentinian nationality", Wilders said. When the Rutte III government took office, Wilders filed a motion of no-confidence against Minister Kasja Ollongren of Home Affairs because she has both Dutch and Swedish nationality, according to NOS.

According to Wilders, this is in the interest of the Netherlands' survival. "Survival of Dutch culture and making sure that we become the boss ourselves. Over our country, our culture, our laws", he said. He points out that "about a quarter" of the large cities' municipal councilors "has a name that looks like a non-western immigrant". He did not want to comment on the loyalty of these people to the Netherlands, but said that the influence of people from "a totally different culture" is much wider than what we think.

DENK leader Tunahan Kuzu calls Wilders' statements the last convulsions of someone who noticed "that his smear campaigns against groups of Dutch whom he sees as second-class citizens, results in his political downfall and our political rise", he said on Twitter.
