Stones on Dutch highway cause accident; one killed, one hurt

One person was killed and another seriously hurt in an accident on the A58 highway near Moergestel on Monday morning. The highway towards Tilburg is closed.

The accident may have been caused by stones on the road, ANP reports. The police are investigating whether the stones fell from a vehicle or were deliberately placed on the road, AD reports.

The highway is closed between junction Batadorp and Moergestel, ANWB reports.

Motorists trapped on the highway due to the road closures were led away by the police around 6:45 a.m.

Public works department Rijkswaterstaat advises people traveling to Tilburg or Breda to detour via Den Bosch on the A2 and A65.
