Man dies during arrest after brawl

A man died while being arrested in his home in the Leeuwarden neighborhood of Techum late on Saturday night. The police responded to the home after receiving a report of a fight. The man resisted arrest and became unwell, the police said in a statement.

Two police officers responded to the home to investigate reports of a fight. They spoke to those present in the home, including the resident. When the officers tried to arrest the resident, he resisted. "There was a scuffle, but the man suddenly became unwell", a police spokesperson said to RTL Nieuws.

The officers immediately started resuscitating the man, later assisted by paramedics. But it was to no avail. The man died at the scene.

The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at government services like the police, is investigating the man's death.
