Shots fired at Roosendaal home
At least three shots were fired at a home on Amethisdijk in Roosendaal during the early hours of Sunday morning. Bullets pierced the mailbox and the home's shutter. The family - a mother, father and three kids - were home at the time of the shooting. No one was injured, Omroep Brabant reports.
The family is shaken up by what happened, the mother said to the broadcaster. "I heard three bangs, when I ran out, I saw a dark colored Volvo driving away." She has no idea why they were targeted. "We are just a family", the woman said. "I work in healthcare and my husband is home to care for the children. We've been living here for eight years and never had any problems. I also find this terrible for the neighborhood. What will people think of us?"
The police searched the area, also using a sniffer dog, but nothing was found.
The municipality believes that the shooting may be drugs related, mayor Jacques Niederer said to Omroep Brabant. "I am very concerned about the safety of innocent residents an passersby", he said. "It can not be allowed that the underworld rules the streets and bullets fly about your head. This is an untenable situation. Together with the police and Public Prosecutor, I am looking into whether other measures are possible in addition to the criminal investigation."
In December this Roosendaal neighborhood was also shaken by a shooting. A 22-year-old man was injured on Diamantdijk. The police arrested a 29-year-old suspect. Whether these two shootings are related, is not yet clear.
