Train crashes into car; motorist killed
A train crashed into a car on a crossing between Holten and Rijssen on Monday morning. The person in the car was killed in the collision, a member of ProRail's incident team confirmed on Twitter.
The accident happened on the Keizerdijk crossing on the outskirts of Rijssen, the Telegraaf reports. Emergency services - ambulances, police, fire department, and ProRail's incident team - were at the scene within minutes. But it was quickly revealed that the motorist could not be saved.
Police spokesperson Paul Koetsier told De Stentor that "intent" may have been involved. "The train driver stated that the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the crossing", he said.
The accident brought train traffic between Deventer and Almelo to a halt. Passengers in the train involved in the accident were evacuated and transported further by bus.
