Man killed in fight at Rotterdam subway station

A 54-year-old man died after a fight at the Zuidplein subway station in Rotterdam on Friday afternoon. So far multiple people responded to the police's call for witnesses to come forward, AD reports.

The fight happened around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, near the lift on the platform towards Spijkenisse. The 54-year-old man fell and briefly lost consciousness. Responding police officers briefly managed to talk to the man. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. During the course of the evening, his condition deteriorated and he passed away.

The police are investigating exactly what happened. Based on witness testimony and surveillance camera footage, the police believe that two men were involved in the fight. The police are still in consultation with the Public Prosecutor on whether or not the surveillance camera footage of the fight should be released to the public, according to AD.
