
Two killed in crash with wrong way driver
Two people were killed in an accident involving a wrong-way driver on the A73 near the Roertunnel in Roermond on Sunday night. The drivers of the two involved cars died at the scene, the police said in a statement.
The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. The wrong-way driver drove through the tunnel northbound and crashed into another vehicle just outside the tunnel. First responders tried to help the victims, but it was to no avail. Both died at the scene. The police did not reveal the victims' identities.
The police took in multiple witnesses of the accident and offered them victim assistance. The tunnel was closed for hours for the police investigation.
As far as is known, no one else was injured.
