Anti-tank mine triggers pawn shop evacuation

De Drie Winkeliers pawn shop in Appingedam had to be evacuated on Wednesday afternoon after a box containing an anti-tank mine of Polish make was found in the store, NOS reports.

A shop assistant spotted the old looking box and opened it to see what was inside. He called the police when he realized it was a mine. The police sent an officer specialized in weapons. The officer concluded that the explosive may be dangerous and the store was evacuated.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was deployed to make the mine safe and remove it from the business. The mine contained two kilos of explosive material, but luckily did not have an igniter.

It is not clear who dropped the mine off at the score.
