Explosion in Delft flat; one seriously injured

One person was seriously injured in an explosion in an apartment on Van Schuijlenburchstraat in Delft on Wednesday morning. The fire department evacuated the apartment building. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, eyewitnesses told AD.

The explosion happened in an empty apartment managed by housing company Vidomes. It was a Vidomes employee who was injured. He was doing work in the apartment when the explosion happened. "A message we are of course incredibly shocked by", the company said, according to the newspaper.

The fire department believes that gas may be the culprit behind the explosion. The police and firefighters are investigating.
