Psych patient suspected in fatal Amsterdam subway stabbing

A man suspected of stabbing a 38-year-old man to death on a busy Amsterdam subway in July, is a patient at AMC's psychiatric department in Amsterdam. At the time of the stabbing, suspect Philip O. was on leave from the clinic, the Public Prosecutor confirmed to NU.nl following reports by AT5.

A magistrate ruled on Tuesday that 27-year-old O. must be admitted ot the Pieter Baan Center for a mental health examination. He is being charged with murder. The judiciary also suspects him of assaulting an AMC nurse in June. The investigation against the man is still ongoing.

The fatal stabbing happened during rush hour on subway 53, near the Venserpolder stop at Dalsteindreef in Zuidoost on July 27th. The victim was resuscitated on the train, but died a short time later. O. was arrested immediately after the attack.

The Public Prosecutor previously stated that O. did not know the victim and seemingly attacked at random.
