Chainsaw wielding man gunned down in Friesland village

Police officers shot a man in the leg in Hallum, Friesland on Sunday. The man was threatening his neighbors with a chainsaw in a quarrel, AD reports.

Officers responding to a report of a neighbor quarrel, found the man in his house. He grabbed his chainsaw. According to the police, he wanted to attack his neighbors.

The police ordered the man to put the weapon down, but he ignored them. An officer had to shoot him in the leg. The wounded man was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Rijksrecherche - the department that handles internal investigations at the police - will investigate the incident, as is customary in all incidents involving a police officer firing his or her service weapon.
