Dutch tourist arrested in Portugal for attempted rape of girl, 9

A Dutch tourist was arrested in Portugal on Monday for attempting to rape a 9-year-old girl in a busy E. Leclerc supermarket in the city of Lamego, AD reports.

The suspect is a 35-year-old man who lives in Germany, but has Dutch nationality. He lured the girl to the supermarket's bathroom by pretending to be a shop employee, according to the newspaper. The girl's father noticed that she was gone and searched the store until he heard shouting from the bathrooms. He forced the door and caught the Dutch man red handed, AD reports.

Employees overpowered the Dutch man and held him until the police arrived. He is in custody. Under Portugueuse law, the Dutch man can face up to 8 years in prison.
