Hotel Arson: One injured, three arrested following Almelo fire

A fire in the Preston Palace hotel in Almelo on Thursday night ended with three men arrested and one treated in hospital for smoke inhalation. The police believe arson was involved, RTL Nieuws reports.

The fire broke out around 10:00 p.m. Some 400 guests had to be evacuated. One guest was taken to hospital with respiratory problems. Another one was advised to go see a GP.

A 20-year-old man from Hoogezand and a 22-year-old man from Scheemda was arrested for involvement in the fire. A 56-year-old man from Almelo was arrested for refusing to leave the hotel. He resisted arrest and tried to grab a weapon from one of the officers.

Firefighters managed to get the fire under control very quickly. Guests were able to return to their rooms after the fire was extinguished.
