No charges against cops for arrested man's death
No charges will be pressed against police officers involved in an arrest in which a 30-year-old man died in Goes last year, the Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday. An investigation into the incident did not reveal the cause of the mans death, but did confirm that he did not die due to police action, according to the Prosecutor, the Telegraaf reports.
The incident happened in August last year. The police responded to reports about a naked man screaming on Berkenstraat in Goes. The man could not be reasoned with and resisted vehemently when officers tried to arrest him. He was worked to the ground, where he lost consciousness and passed away. Officers tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail.
An extensive forensic and toxicological investigation could not determent the cause of the man's death. But it can be ruled out that he died due to something the police did, such as using pepper spray, according to the Prosecutor.
