Train collides with excavator; no rail traffic between Helmond and Horst-Sevenum
A freight train collided with an excavator at a guarded railway crossing in Deurne around 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning. No one was injured, according to the fire department. But no train traffic will be possible between Helmond and Horst-Sevenum for at least the rest of the day, NS warns.
How the accident happened is still unclear, according to newspaper AD. It seems that the train dragged the excavator for several meters. The excavator driver managed to jump out in time to avoid serious injuries. A number of the overhead lines were damaged.
Some of the freight train's wagons contained chemicals. According to the fire department, these wagons were not damaged and no hazardous substances were released.
NS deployed buses between Helmond and Helmond Brouwhuis and between Helmond, Deurne and Horst-Sevenum. The rail company did not say how much of a delay travelers can expect.
