Fake bomb found in former military van causes commotion, evacuation
About a dozen homes on Bogardeind in Geldorp were evacuated on Tuesday evening after a bomb was found in a recently bought van. It eventually turned out to be a fake bomb used in Defense training, ANP reports.
A Geldorp man bought the Peugeot Partner from a car dealer in Oosterhout and drove it home. There he discovered some loose wires and what looked like a stick of dynamite in the back of the vehicle, AD reports. He immediately called the police.
The police did an initial inspection and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team. The EOD eventually concluded that the bomb was a dummy, used to train Defense employees. The van previously belonged to the Ministry of Defense.
The new owner of the van called the police around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes around 9:30 p.m.
