Football club to hold memorial on Friday for 10 y.o. Diego

Football club Wieldrecht is holding a meeting on Friday night at its clubhouse in Dordrecht for members who want to commemorate 10-year-old Diego, who was found dead in his Dordrecht home on Wednesday morning. A condolence register will be opened and professionals from the police will be there to offer support to those who need it, AD reports.

"Last night we sat together to organize this carefully and with respect for the family", the football club said. Diego's team was set to play a match on Saturday, but this match has been canceled.

Diego was found dead in the home he shares with his father on Jan Vethkade in Krispijn, Dordrecht early on Wednesday morning. Father Marcel S. himself called the police around 6:00 a.m. By 10:00 a.m. the police closed down the area as a crime scene and took Marcel S. into custody. So far the police aren't saying anything about how the boy died. But according to his family, Diego was killed in a crime.

Acting Mayor Peter van der Velden, who took office in Dordrecht only yesterday, also expressed his sympathies with Diego's family and friends. "On my first day in Dordrecht I am faced with this great sorrow. A terrible loss, the loss of this child affects the mother, sister and other family members directly involved. I and many with me sympathize with them. We are all deeply affected."
