Daycare worker caught with child porn; Parents' early warnings went uninvestigated
Parents previously warned a daycare center in Bussum that something was off about an employee, who was recently arrested for the possession of child pornography, the association for parents in daycare BOinK told regional broadcaster NH Nieuws.
The man was arrested on January 31st after the police found child pornography in his home. His house was searched based on a tip from the American authorities that there was child pornography stored in his Dropbox. The police are sure that the pornography was not made at the daycare center. The man is only suspected of possession of child pornography, not the production thereof.
According to BOinK chairman Gjalt Jellesma, parents repeatedly complained about the employee, but these early warnings were ignored. "A number of parents said: 'I do not want my child to come into contact with this teaching assistant'," Jellesma said to the broadcaster. "In other words, I do not want this man working in the groups where my child is." The parents are outraged that nothing was done about those complaints.
According to Jellesma, these types of signals should always be investigated. He isn't saying that the daycare center did not act in good faith. "But we have to learn from these signals."
Jellesma did not say exactly when the parents complained about the man.
