Disturbed man walks long distance on frozen Almere pond, falls through ice

Emergency services in Almere responded en masse on Monday to rescue a seemingly mentally disturbed man who fell through the ice after walking a long distance on a lake in Almere Stad. Divers from the fire department pulled him from the water, the Telegraaf reports.

Eye witnesses told th newspaper that the man walked a long distance on the ice. When police officers called to him to come back to shore, he refused. The fire department and an air ambulance were called in.

By the time the fire department arrived, the man had fallen through the ice. Divers took a stretcher and carefully crossed the ice to the man, but had a hard time getting him out of the water because he struggled against them. According to the firefighters, he seemed mentally disturbed. They finally got him out of the water and brought him to shore.

According to the newspaper, the man's current condition is unknown.
