Man dies after being arrested at traffic check
A 30-year-old man from Nijkerk died during the early hours of Monday morning after he was arrested at a traffic check, the police said in a statement. The man resisted arrest, according to the police.
The man was pulled over around 00:45 a.m. due to his driving. This happened on the Spaceshuttle in Amersfoort. The man ignored the police signals to pull over and sped off. He was eventually brought to a stop and arrested on Langestraat. He resisted arrest.
The police then transferred the an to the detention center in Houten, where he was put in a cell. According to the police, he became unwell shortly thereafter. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at the police, is investigating the man's death. Witnesses are asked to come forward.
