Record number of Dutch switch energy providers

Between mid-2015 and mid-2016 a massive 17 percent of Dutch consumers switched energy providers - a record number, according to the authority for consumers and markets ACM, NU.nl reports.

According to ACM, the average consumer can save up to 300 euros per year by taking an energy contract with a new supplier, though this varies by contract. Consumers who have never switched providers stand to save the most.

The authority encourages consumers to consider switching if another provider is cheaper. "By switching, consumers force energy companies to compete. This leads to improved services and lower prices", according to ACM.
