People in the Netherlands can expect to pay more to send letters or parcels by post next year. According to postal service PostNL, the price increases are necessary to keep the service profitable and running due to the decreasing mail volumes, the Telegraaf reports.

The price of a single postage stamp for a letter sent within the Netherlands will increase from the current 87 cents to 91 cents next year. Stamps for mail abroad will cost 1.50 euros, 5 cents more than now. The price for a December stamp is also increasing by 5 cents, to 0.82 euros.

Most tulip bulbs sold at the popular flower markets in Amsterdam and Lisse never bloom, according to a study commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam and the general association for flower bulb culture KAVB. "Research shows that there is structural deception of consumers when selling tulip bulbs at the Flower Market and the so-called 'Bloembollenboulevard' along the N208 in Lisse," the KAVB said in a statement.

They are suspected of getting money out of customers by misleading them with fake profiles. According to the ACM, it is often vulnerable people that fall victim to this practice, NU.nl reports.

According to the ACM, visitors to the sites receive messages from fake profiles, which are sent by employees of the companies. The visitors then have to pay to respond to messages from these fake profiles.

The port of Rotterdam is unprepared for the upcoming Brexit, and concerns are rising among port companies, Rotterdam entrepreneurs told the Financieele Dagblad.

The biggest problem is a lack of urgency, from the government and other involved authorities like Customs and food and consumer product safety authority ACM, Bas Janssen, director of Rotterdam business organization Deltalinqs, said to the newspaper. "But also from the entrepreneurs themselves. A lot is going to happen when the hard landing that is now expected happens."

The vast majority of Dutch consumers can save a lot of money on their basic health insurance policy, according to a study by the Netherlands authority on consumers and markets ACM and the Dutch healthcare authority NZa, NU.nl reports.

Last year three quarters of Dutch were on a basic health insurance policy for which there was a cheaper, comparable alternative. On average, Dutch pay about 100 euros per year too much for their basic health insurance.

According to the ACM, people often order items via ads on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram without making sure that the seller is reliable, and therefore regularly lose money.

The Association of Caribbean Mediaworkers (ACM) launched a wide effort to raise funds for their colleagues on the Caribbean islands that were hit by Hurricane Irma. Part of that effort is a crowdfunding campaign in the Netherlands, primarily focused on bringing aid and equipment to journalists on the Dutch island of Sint Maarten, which was hit hardest by the Category 5 hurricane on September 6th.

Ryanair planned to grow with new routes at Eindhoven Airport this fall, but the Dutch government won't give the Irish budget airline additional takeoff and landing slots, according to the airline, ANP reports.

Ryanair is therefore forced to completely scrap three of its planned connections and move three other routes to Germany. And flights from Eindhoven to six other destinations are flown less frequently than originally intended.

According to ACM, NS misused its "economic dominant position" to distort competition by intentionally entering a loss-making bid, NU.nl reports.

T-Mobile's data free music bundle does not violate net neutrality regulations, the court of Rotterdam ruled on Thursday. The Dutch telecom company can therefore keep offering it to its clients, NU.nl reports.

The telecom company turned to court after the Dutch Authority for Consumer and Market (ACM) ordered T-Mobile to suspend the service in December. According to the ACM, data free music streaming is in violation of Dutch net neutrality, making it detrimental for competition among internet services.

Between mid-2015 and mid-2016 a massive 17 percent of Dutch consumers switched energy providers - a record number, according to the authority for consumers and markets ACM, NU.nl reports.

According to ACM, the average consumer can save up to 300 euros per year by taking an energy contract with a new supplier, though this varies by contract. Consumers who have never switched providers stand to save the most.
