Suspects get 34 years for murder of Dutch volleyball star, partner
A court in Murcia, Spain sentenced two suspects in the murders of Dutch volleyball star Ingrid Visser and her Partner Louis Severein to 34 years in prison each. A third suspect was given five months in prison, the Volkskrant reports.
Last week the jury found 39-year old Spaniard Juan Cuenca and 62-year-old Romanian Valentin Ion guilty of the gruesome murders in May 2013. The jury believes that Cuenca was the mastermind behind the murder and consider it proven that he hired two Romanians to carry out the killings. In addition to the 34 years in prison, the two main suspects must pay the couple's four closest relatives damages totaling in around 200 thosuand euros. Ion confessed to the murders during the trial.
The second Romanian, 50-year-old Constantin Stan, was not found guilty of the mrder. The jury believes that he was on the top floor of the house when the two Dutch were killed. He was found guilty of helping to cut the bodies into pieces. For that he must spend five months in jail and pay the relatives of the Dutch couple a total of 16 thousand euros.
