Another Amsterdam coffeeshop closed after shooting
Coffeeshop Blue Lagoon on Overtoom in Amsterdam was closed down indefinitely by order of Mayor Eberhard van der Laan on Wednesday. This follows the coffeeshop being targeted in a shooting during the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Telegraaf reports. According to the Mayor, the coffeeshop poses a serious danger to residents and passersby. The coffeeshop is located in a residential area. And as the motive for the shooting is unclear, the chance of recurrence can't be ruled out. This puts safety and public order in danger, the mayor said. This is the umpteenth coffeeshop to be closed after a shooting in Amsterdam. In September coffeeshop Greenplace was closed down after a shooting. So was DNA on Achillesstraat after the second shooting at the establishment this year. In May multiple shots were fired at coffeeshop Jabba the Hutt in Amsterdam-Zuid. De Kroon in Amsterdam-Zuid was shot at in January and The Power on Sarphatistraatwas targeted in February. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan decided to shut them down indefinitely. In November last year coffeeshops on Krugerstraat and Gerard Dousraatwere the targets of drive-by shootings.
