Dutch more positive on being part of the European Union

The Dutch population is more positive about being part of the European Union, according to to the quarterly survey of the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP). In the second quarter of this year, 46 percent of Dutch thought EU membership is a good thing, compared to 39 percent in the first quarter, the Volkskrant reports. Only 20 percent of Dutch are in favor of a so-called Nexit - the Netherlands leaving the EU. Exactly 50 percent are against it, up fro 43 percent in the previous quarter. According to the SCP, this has to do with the negative effects the Brexit is expected to have on Britain. If the effects prove to be less harmful than thought, the pro-Nexit camp may again see an increase. A majority of 56 percent of Dutch do think that the Netherlands ceded too much influence to the EU.
