Nuclear authority investigating Petten reactor

The Dutch authority for nuclear safety and radiation protection ANVS will conduct a number of interviews with the directors, management and employees of NRG - the company that operates the nuclear reactor in Petten. The interviews will concern the possible impact financial problems are having on safety at the reactor, Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wrote to parliament. “The ANVS concluded that there is currently no doubt about nuclear safety. It should be ensured, however, that NRG guarantees its safety performance and continues to enhance it”, the Minister of Infrastructure and Environment wrote to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament. Last week broadcaster reported that employees are worried about safety at the nuclear reactor - corners are being cut to save costs. NRG makes medical isotopes for treating cancer.
