Gas station bursts into flames after suicidal driver crashes car

A 32-year-old suicidal Almere man caused massive amounts of damage when he crashed his car into gas station De Andel on the A12 near Gouda on Saturday night. His car hit a gas pump, which caught fire and destroyed a large part of the gas station, the Volkskrant reports.

The Almere man was arrested. Talking to the police on Sunday he stated that he deliberately crashed into the gas station at high speed in an attempt to commit suicide. He is in custody on suspicion or arson and attempted manslaughter.

A witness pulled the unconscious Almere man from his car after the collision and a gas station employee immediately hit the emergency button, closing all lines. These quick actions resulted in no one but the Almere man being injured.

Fire fighters got the fire under control around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. The entire gas station can be considered lost.
