American, Japanese tourists avoiding Amsterdam over terror threat

Americans and Japanese tourists are avoiding Amsterdam due to the threat of terrorism in Europe, according to NBTC, Amsterdam Marketing and various hotels in the Dutch capital, AD reports. Amsterdam Marketing heard from various four- and five star hotels and other luxury attractions that they are getting fewer and fewer bookings from Asia and America. "This has been going on since Paris and Brussels. The recent attacks in Nice and Germany are not making it any better." Tourist attractions and museums are all noticing fewer foreign tourists following terrorist attacks, though the number of tourists visiting the Dutch capital is still increasing. "On the date and shortly thereafter, we quickly noticed a leveling off in the number of tickets we sold, specifically for attractions, museums, tours and excursions", Sergio Segers of tour operator Tours & Tickets aid to broadcaster NOS. Despite this, the number of overnight hotel stays in the Dutch capital increased with about 15 percent, compared tot he previous year, according to the broadcaster.
