Drenthe fatal car accident caused by defective brake
An accident in which four people were killed in Stieltjeskanaal, Drenthe on Saturday, was caused by a faulty brake on the trailer being dragged by the car, the police's Traffic Accident Analysis department concluded.
A 65-year-old grandfather, his 44-year-old son, his 34-year-old pregnant daughter in law and his 2-year-old grandchild were all killed in the tragic accident.
According to the police, a faulty overrun brake on the trailer resulted in the trailer crashing into the car when it slowed down. The blow that followed pushed the car into the water. As the trailer was filled with construction debris and therefore very heavy, the car sank to the bottom of the channel before anyone could react.
