New buyers unfairly blocked from getting mortgages: expert
About 30 percent of young starters are unfairly denied a mortgage, according to mortgage expert Hypotheekshop's own research, BNR reports.
People up to the age of 35 with incomes between 20 thousand and 30 thousand a year are in a particularly bad spot. The stricter lending standards often mean that this group can not get a mortgage, while they can often afford one.
"We fully endorse the code, but the labor market developments, particularly the group up to 35 years, no longer corresponds to the rules of the code", Mark de Rijke of Hypoteekshop said to the broadcaster. According to him, what is mainly looked at is the ideal picture. "But if you look at the people under 35, more than half do not meet it. The establishment of self-employed's income also does not reflect in the code. More attention should be paid to the individual situation of the buyer and to the future prospects rather than to the past."
