More men fall victim to sexual extortion

An increasing number of Dutch men are falling victim to sexual extortion. Most of the thousand of Dutch that fell victim to this online crime last year, were men, De Stentor reports based on figures from HelpWanted. With this form of extortion, the victim is seduced into webcam sex and then extorted for thousands of euros under threat of their nude photos or videos being posted online. HelpWanted, the national hotline for online sexual abuse, received 1,552 reports, of which 721 involved sexual extortion, last year. In 2014 there were 427 reports of this type of extortion. According to the hotline, the actual number of victims is much higher because victims are often too ashamed to report what is happening to them.
