Nearly 1.2 million Dutch have never used the internet
Last year almost 1.2 million people in the Netherlands have never used the internet. That is about 8 percent of the Dutch population aged 12 years in older, according to Statistics Netherlands. Internet usage is increasing in the Netherlands. In 2012 about 10 percent of the population were not active online.
It is especially the elderly in the country that do not use the internet, though internet usage in the group is increasing. Last year half of the people 75-years-old and older were active online, compared to 44 percent in 2012.
Sixty percent of the people who do not use the internet do not have internet access at home. The other 40 percent do have internet in their homes, but chose not to use it.
Last year only 6 percent of Dutch age 12 and older did not have internet access at home, that is a group of nearly 870 thousand people.
