Smuggler arrested at Schiphol with cocaine hidden in bicycle box
A 39-year-old Amsterdam resident was arrested at Schiphol airport last week on suspicion of smuggling 40 kilograms of cocaine from the Dominican Republic to the Netherlands, AT5 reports.
The arrest was made by the Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that works as a branch of the military and is responsible for airport security. According to the Marechaussee, the man smuggled the cocaine in a bicycle box in August last year. He left his contraband behind at Schiphol when he got the box stuck between the doors of the exit.
Customs scanned the bicycle box, which revealed that what was inside was not the shape of a bicycle. The Marechaussee opened the box and found packages of cocaine, worth around 10 million euros on the street.
An extensive investigation led to the man's arrest.
