Twelve arrested in riots after Ajax Eredivisie loss
Twelve people were arrested in Doetinchem on Sunday in riots that erupted after the De Graafschap vs Ajax match. Most of those arrested were Ajax supporters upset that their club lost the Eredivisie title, according to the police.
Riot police, rangers, six horse-mounted officers and several police dog handlers were deployed to try restore calm to Doetinchem. Another 50 officers, originally deployed to escort the Giro d'Italia cycling race, were also sent to the city.
Three police officers were injured. Their injuries were minor and they were sent home after treatment. Three police horses also sustained minor injuries.
The Eredivisie title went to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday. PSV supporters flooded the streets of Eindhoven to celebrate. No arrests were made.
